Kowa offers two new advanced digital fundus cameras for retinal imaging, the Non-Myd 7 and the Genesis-D. Kowa's Non-Myd 7 is an ultra-high resolution, easy-to-use fundus camera with the capability of 6.1 megapixels high-resolution photography that results in sharp, clear images, the company says.

The Genesis-D is a lightweight, compact, hand-held retinal camera for easy one-handed shooting. Both cameras also feature enhanced resolution and the ability to photograph images at angles, as well as three internal fixation target positions, the company says.

The Non-Myd 7 allows for easy image storage. It's ideally suited for use with the Kowa's VK-2 digital imaging system and is compatible to work with any network environment. For more information, call 1 (800) 966-5692, or visit kowa-usa.com.

New IOL Implants Reduce Lens Variability

A new series of monofocal and accommodating IOL implants from Lenstec Inc. reduce lens variability up to 300 percent compared to other cataract replacement lenses.

The Precision Series lenses, the Softec PS monofocal lens and the Tetraflex presbyopic accommodating lens, are produced in 0.2-D to 0.25-D increments, as opposed to the standard 0.5-D increments of other IOLs on the market. This can allow the surgeon a greater choice of lenses tailored to meet the needs of the patient, Lenstec says.

A lens's variability, or the difference between a lens's labeled prescription and its actual power, is one of the leading causes of refractive error when treating cataract patients, Lenstec says.

Device Helps Refractive Patients Pre-Surgery

Rhein Medical's Geggel Corneal Chiller is designed to thoroughly chill the entire cornea before or after PRK, LASIK and LASEK surgery, the company reports.

Developed in coordination with Harry S. Geggel, MD, the new instrument helps minimize corneal scarring, diminish postoperative haze, reduce pain to the patient, and stabilize refractive results. The Chiller is simple and easy to use, the company says, and rests on a cornea using gravity to secure a watertight seal. The Chiller is also reusable. Ziemer's New Ocular Wavefront Analyzer

Switzerland-based Ziemer offers a new, high-resolution Hartmann-Shack aberrometer, the Maxwell Ocular Wavefront Analyzer, launched at March's American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery meeting. It is designed for stand-alone applications in ophthalmology and optometry and for integration into a variety of surgical and diagnostic systems, the company reports.

The product's engine and software feature a 7.2 x 7.2-mm area of analysis at the pupil plane, which is broken down into 1,024 lenslets, yielding a spherical and cylinder measurement reproducibility of <0.003 D. Maxwell can also be used for comprehensive refraction analysis and for the objective measurement of accommodation, assessing the in situ performance of various optical and surgical vision correction procedures, the company says. Its intuitive software delivers classic automatic refraction as well as higher-order optical aberrations measurements. Additional functionalities include keratometry, objective visual acuity and contrast sensitivity, pupillometry and accommodative response analysis.

Relief From Dry-Eye Symptoms

Tranquileyes Eye Hydrating Therapy provides immediate and long-lasting natural relief from dry, irritated eyes, Eye Eco Inc. says. It naturally restores moisture by creating heat and increasing humidity around the eye, which helps stimulate tear production and reduce the evaporation of natural tears. The increased heat and humidity also helps improve overall eye health by thickening the lipid layer.

Tranquileyes is latex-free, hypoallergenic and features an eye cover-fabric-lined viscoelastic foam, especially designed to form to the face, cushions the eye cover, providing increased comfort while controlling the temperature and humidity within the eye environment. The foam is easily replaceable to ensure hygiene. It comes with adjustable comfort wrap that holds the eye covers in place.

Tool Tests for Glaucoma

A new ophthalmic instrument from Portable Ophthalmic Devices Inc. provides a quick and easy way to identify patients at risk from visual field loss from glaucoma and other ocular diseases by measuring pulsatile ocular blood flow.

The TonoPlus Tonograph can identify ocular diseases that have abnormally low ocular pulsatile blood flow and relative ocular ischemia—including glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, AMD and retinal dystrophies.

Clean Air with AIT's New Air Mini

The new AIR Mini from AIT Industries will help eliminate the strong smell that grinding machines for lenses can generate.

The odor emissions that originate from finishing lenses can be irritating for many people in in-office labs, the company says. When the AIR Mini Purifier is placed underneath or near the edging cabinet, it will reduce dust and smoke emissions greater than 98 percent and reduce the smell of popular new lens materials greater than 90 percent.

The AIR Mini can be attached to all major edging systems in the market. AIT also offers the AIR and AIR Pro products, which can be used in larger volume labs with generators and multiple edgers.
