Ocusoft, a supplier of ophthalmic pharmaceuticals and supplies, announces product-specific, free sample websites and broad-based education websites for all eye-care professionals.

Ocusoft introduced ocusoftlidscrubsamples. com, a new website to ease the acquisition of fresh samples of Ocusoft Lid Scrub for patient distribution. The site will grant access to receive samples of both Ocusoft Lid Scrub Original and Ocusoft Lid Scrub Plus Extra Strength Formula.

In addition, TetraVisc, the original high-viscosity topical anesthetic gel, now comes in new 0.6- mL unit-dose dropper bottles in a pre-packaged box of 12.

The company says TetraVisc provides a longer anesthetization time than other traditional ophthalmic anesthetic solutions and significantly improves pain levels in postoperative patients. TetraVisc also offers several advantages over anesthetic jelly (commonly used off-label for a number of years in cataract surgery), including immediate dispersion across the cornea and a controlled tip drop. For immediate access to a free unit-dose sample, eye-care professionals can visit tetravisc freesamples.com. For information and educational literature, visit the Ocusoft education-oriented sites at ocusofteducation.com or ocusofteducation.biz.

Netland Adjustable Lid Speculum with Notch

Storz Instruments (Bausch & Lomb) now offers the Netland Adjustable Lid Speculum with Notch (item #E4124). The versatile lid speculum has notches to securely hold limbal or corneal bridle sutures, in order to optimize exposure for procedures performed from limbus to equatorial areas. The flared ends can also be used to secure bridle sutures for surgery between quadrants.

When the bridle suture is placed under the lid speculum into a notch or around the flared end, exposure of the area posterior to the limbus is optimized, either within or between quadrants. When not needed, the notches are not in the way, so the instrument can be used as a normal lid speculum. The contoured shape minimizes torsional forces on the speculum during surgery.

The speculum can be used for standard cataract or corneal surgery or for specialized procedures requiring more extensive exposure. The speculum is ideal for use with trabeculectomy, glaucoma drainage implants and other procedures, reducing set-up time and improving exposure. The angled shape of the speculum fits comfortably and unobtrusively over the temporal area, minimizing the possibility of torque on the speculum due to gravity or objects in the surgical field. Lids stay parallel during adjustment that accommodates small to large interpalpebral openings.

Oasis Medical Offers Disposable Bimanual Handpieces

Oasis Medical has introduced Disposable Bimanual Handpieces to its line of MICS products. The separate irrigation and aspiration functions give the surgeon control and flexibility during cortex removal and capsule polishing, improved stability and decreased chance of contamination.

The disposable bimanual sets include both blue irrigation and purple aspiration handpieces. Both handpieces are available with very thin wall 19 ga., 20 ga. or 21 ga. curved tips. Using fragile, very thin wall cannulas to gain the ad-vantage of increased fluidics is acceptable for one-use disposables. Packaged 10 sets per box.

Oasis has also announced the addition of two new styles to the Soft Shield line: the Collagen Scleral Ring and Collagen Scleral Shield. Like the original 14.5 mm Soft Shield Collagen Corneal Shields, these new products are available in Quick Shield, 12-, 24- and 72-hour dissolution rates; all provide ocular comfort, protection and lubrication following surgery, ocular injections, traumatic or non-traumatic conditions.

The Collagen Scleral Shield has a diameter of 18 mm. Once applied, the thin, purified collagen absorbs ocular fluids and begins to dissolve and conform to the eye.

The Collagen Scleral Ring has an 18-mm diameter with a 9-mm inner diameter that dissolves within 30 minutes to give the patient visual clarity.

Vistakon Launches Acuvue  Direct

Vistakon, has launched Acuvue Direct, a new service designed to enhance patient convenience, improve patients' compliance and drive health education. Company research showed that the one-time cost of an annual supply of contact lenses is more than many patients can afford. Acuvue Direct lets them spread the financial commitment out over four equal payments during the year while still being able to take advantage of cost-saving rebates.

After enrolling at their provider's office, patients automatically receive a three-month supply of their prescribed Acuvue contact lenses at quarterly intervals, along with a fresh contact lens case (case included only in two-week lens wearers orders) to encourage good lens care habits, and a reminder about their wearing schedule. During the final shipment the patient is prompted to return  to his provider's office for an annual exam. With each shipment, the patient's credit card is charged for one-fourth the cost of the annual supply, with the payment remitted to the doctor's office. Credit card validation is  handled by an independent third party vendor, so the doctor doesn't have to worry about verifying payment information each quarter. All patient financial information is sent through a security portal not visible to Vistakon.

Each month, participating doctors receive a report and invoice for the lenses that were shipped out that month, notice of cancelled or postponed orders, and a list of patients nearing their prescription expiration. Although patients can postpone a shipment, they can't order any lenses beyond the expiration of their prescription.
